Playing For Change is more than just music. We’re a movement that believes in the power of music to break down barriers, connect people, and create positive change.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a Certified B Corp (Social Purpose Corporation) created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting music programs for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

A WORLD UNITED THROUGH MUSIC

Playing For Change was created to inspire and connect the world through music. The idea for this project came from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people.

Traveling around the world inspired us to unite many of the greatest musicians we met throughout our journey. These musicians come from many different countries and cultures, but through music they speak the same language.

Playing For Change was first born on a voyage across the United States, documenting the stories behind everyday street musicians.

Resulting in the award winning documentary ‘A Cinematic Discovery of Street Music’ followed up by ‘Peace Through Music’ which features the first ever Song Around The World ‘Stand by Me’.

SONGS AROUNDTHE WORLD

Playing For Change has produced over 70 Songs Around the World where musicians of all backgrounds come together transcending language and cultural boundaries, proving how we are all connected.

PLAYING FOR CHANGE BAND

Creating Songs Around The World inspired us to unite many of the greatest musicians we met throughout our journey and form the Playing For Change Band.

These musicians come from many different countries and cultures, but through music they speak the same language. The band now tours the world, spreading the message of love and hope to audiences everywhere.

PLAYING FOR CHANGE FOUNDATION

Inspired by the love and hospitality in some of the most underprivileged communities, we decided to create a separate non-profit organization in 2007, building the first music school in Gugulethu, South Africa.

Today, the Playing For Change Foundation has developed 18 music and education programs across 50 locations in 13 countries. The Foundation was honored to be named a ‘Polar Music Prize’ winner in 2019.

To date we have produced nearly 400 videos, recorded over 1,400 musicians in 60+ countries and touched the hearts of over two billion viewers, and none of this would have been possible without our loyal supporters.
