How To Set Up Your Crypto Wallet?

MetaMask is the most popular crypto wallet for Ethereum assets and you can follow the instructions to set up your own digital wallet:

What You'll Need

  • A computer or smartphone
  • A browser (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, or Edge) OR the MetaMask mobile app
  • A secure internet connection
  • A pen and paper (for your recovery phrase – do not store digitally)

Step 1: Install MetaMask

On Browser:

  1. Go to the official site: https://metamask.io
  2. Click “Download” and choose your browser.
  3. Install the MetaMask extension from the Chrome Web Store (or equivalent).
  4. After installation, click the • MetaMask icon in your browser toolbar.

On Mobile:

  1. Download MetaMask from:
    – Google Play Store (Android)
    – Apple App Store (iOS)
  2. Open the app.

Step 2: Create a New Wallet

  1. Click “Create a Wallet”
  2. Choose whether to share anonymous usage data (optional).
  3. Create a strong password (minimum 8 characters). Store this securely.
  4. Click “Create”.

Step 3: Secure Your Wallet

  1. MetaMask will show your Secret Recovery Phrase (12 words).
  2. Write it down on paper (offline). Do not screenshot or save it digitally.
  3. Confirm the phrase in the correct order.
  4. Your wallet is now set up!
  • IMPORTANT:
  • If you lose the recovery phrase, you lose access to your wallet forever.
  • Never share it with anyone.

Step 4: Get Your Ethereum Address

  1. Open MetaMask (extension or app)
  2. On the main screen, you’ll see an account name like Account 1
  3. Below it, you’ll see your Ethereum address (starts with 0x…)
  4. Click to copy it – this is your public ETH address (safe to share for receiving crypto).
  • Optional Tips
  • You can create multiple ETH addresses under one MetaMask by clicking your profile icon Account.
  • To add other networks (like Polygon, BNB Chain), go to Settings → Networks → Add Network.

Step 5 (Optional): Test it Out

  1. Send a small amount of ETH from an exchange or friend to your MetaMask address.
  2. Check your balance updates automatically.
  • Safety Reminders
  • Always double-check URLs (only use https://metamask.io)
  • Don’t connect to unknown dApps (web3 apps) or sign suspicious transactions.
  • Store your recovery phrase offline and never share it.
